How to Handle a Skid on An Icy Road

We want you to be well-informed and properly prepared for winter driving conditions. Front wheel skids occur when the vehicle goes out of the driver's control in the complete opposite direction. Regain control by easing off of the gas and steering toward your intended target, only lightly press the brakes if needed. Rear happens when the back-end slides to either side, or "fishtails." Regain control by turning your steering wheel just enough to get your front wheels on course with your back ones.

A skid can be terrifying, but it's important to concentrate on what you're doing and try not to panic. Perform these actions to prevent a skid:
• Check your treads, replace tires if needed
• Drive cautiously
• Slow down before curves
• Keep plenty of distance between yourself and other vehicles
